Buffalo Tours was founded as a small adventure tour operator 17 years ago by Tran Trong Kien, a young Vietnamese medical doctor with a passion for travel. From its humble beginnings, Buffalo Tours has grown to become an award winning inbound tour company, with operations in Vietnam, Thailand, Cambodia and Laos. The Buffalo Tours portfolio caters to all niches in the market; from classic, adventure, luxury and special interest tours, to charity challenges, incentives and voluntourism experiences.

As a boutique tour operator we specialise in fully customised, privately guided trips for international agents, as well as designing unique programs and ground handling services for tour operators running scheduled group departure tours. In 2009 we provided tours for over 25,000 satisfied clients and ground handling for over 200 companies worldwide.

Buffalo Tours are constantly pioneering responsible new travel activities and off the beaten track regions, such as the establishment of Mai Chau Valley as a new trekking alternative to Sapa, and the recent opening of remote Ha Giang in North Vietnam to sustainable tourism, as part of a joint venture with a Non Government Organisation.

The Buffalo Tours team has grown from two people to around 200 full and part time staff, including guides, cooks, drivers and porters. Our team consists of ‘Buffalo’s from Indochina, Australia, England, Nepal, USA, UK and Europe.  We also provide sales services and guides fluent in English, German, French, Spanish and Russian. Buffalo Tours has operations based in Hanoi, Danang, Ho Chi Minh City, Luang Prabang, Siem Reap and Bangkok, as well as a sales office in Australia and additional sales representation in the UK and Germany.

Though we have grown dramatically, our philosophy for success has not changed – to do the seemingly impossible, to choose paths others fear to tread and to empower the local community.
